What size do you need?
What size shed for a garden office?
For one person, an 8 × 8 ft Apex Shed (64 ft²) takes a desk under the side windows and a chair with space to push it back. An 8 × 10 ft Apex Shed (80 ft²) adds a storage wall or a reading chair. For two desks side by side, the 14 × 8 ft Pent Shed (112 ft²) has windows along its 14ft front.

Where the desk goes. In the Apex Sheds the sides are 1,757mm high and the middle 2,285mm, so the desk sits against a side wall, where you are seated, and the middle stays clear to stand and walk. The Pent Shed slopes from 1,887mm at the front to 1,757mm at the back, so face the desks to the taller front windows.

Desk by the window
Put the desk under the windows for daylight, with the screen side-on to the glass so it doesn't catch the glare. On an apex, the windows run down one side.
A storage wall
Shelves or a cupboard on the wall opposite the desk keep files and kit off it. On an apex the tallest shelves fit on the back wall, under the ridge.
A reading corner
A small armchair, a lamp and a rug by the doors gives you somewhere to take calls and read away from the screen.

Garden office questions.
Do I need planning permission for a garden office?
Usually not. In England, a garden building is normally permitted development if it's single storey, behind the front of the house, has eaves no higher than 2.5m, and is no more than 2.5m high overall if it's within 2m of a boundary. Together with extensions and other outbuildings, it can't cover more than half the land around the house. Working from it yourself is fine; sleeping in it, or clients and staff visiting, may need permission. Listed homes, conservation areas and National Parks have tighter rules, and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own. If in doubt, ask your council.
Does it need building regulations approval?
Not normally. In England and Wales a detached garden building with under 15m² of floor area and nowhere to sleep doesn't need building regulations approval. All three sizes on this page are under 9m². Any electrical work does still have to meet the regulations.
Can I have power, lights and heating?
Our buildings come without wiring, heating or insulation. If you want sockets, lights or a heater, speak to a registered electrician: power to a garden building is a new circuit, and it needs fitting and certifying properly. If you plan to work out there in winter, think about lining and insulating the walls yourself, and ask your electrician about safe heating.
Is there enough headroom?
Our Apex Sheds are 2,285mm high inside under the ridge, down the middle, and 1,757mm at the sides, so you sit at the desk by the side wall and stand in the middle. Our Pent Sheds are 1,887mm at the front and 1,757mm at the back. If you're tall, check those against your own height before ordering.
When will it arrive?
Order by 2pm on a working day and it's normally delivered free the next working day to the UK mainland. It comes on a pallet to the kerbside, and we confirm the day by email before it sets off.
Who builds it?
You do: it's designed for DIY assembly, with numbered panels, every fixing and a step-by-step guide. Most sizes take two people half a day to a day. We don't offer installation.
