A bench under the windows, the tools on the wall and room to wheel the bike in. The 8×10 Apex Shed has 42″ double doors and a row of windows down one side, delivered free the next working day.

Why a garden workshop
The mess, the noise and the tools stay out of the house, a few steps from the back door.
42″ doors
Double doors open to 1,067mm: wide enough for a workbench, a sheet of ply or a bike.
Daylight
A row of windows down the side, so the bench sits in good light.
Walls to use
Bare timber walls and studs to fix a tool wall, shelves and brackets to.
Tomorrow
Order by 2pm and it's normally delivered free the next working day.

Which shed suits

Windows along the 12ft front for a long bench, with floor space behind it for a saw or a pillar drill on its stand.
Check the headroom. Our Apex Sheds are 2,285mm high in the middle and 1,757mm at the sides, so the bench goes along the side wall and you stand at it. The Pent Shed is 1,887mm at the front and 1,757mm at the back. Measure tall machines and long timber against those.
Layout ideas
We supply the building. The bench, tools, shelving and electrics are yours to choose.

Run the workbench along the side wall under the windows, so the daylight falls on what you're making. On an apex the windows are down one side; on a pent they're along the front.

Pegboard or a French cleat rail across the studs keeps tools where you can see them. Shelves underneath take boxes, jars of screws and paint tins. On an apex the back wall is the tallest.

Keep the space just inside the doors clear for anything that wheels in and out: a bike on a wall hook, the mower on the floor, garden tools on a rail above.
A pillar drill, bandsaw or mitre saw on its stand goes in a corner, close to a wall and away from the doors. Keep heavy machines near the walls rather than in the middle of the floor, and ask us about anything very heavy before you order.
Long lengths of timber can sit on brackets fixed to the studs along a side wall, up and out of the way. On an apex the side walls are 1,757mm high inside, so keep the rack below that.
Upgrades that matter
Prices for the 8×10 Apex Shed. Other sizes are priced on their own pages.
22mm nominal loglap tongue-and-groove cladding instead of the standard 16mm shiplap: thicker walls for a building you’ll be in every week. The floor and frame are the same on both.

A coloured finish for the outside cladding, so the workshop suits the garden. Re-coat every two to three years.

Good to know
Usually not. In England, a garden building is normally permitted development if it's single storey, behind the front of the house, has eaves no higher than 2.5m, and is no more than 2.5m high overall if it's within 2m of a boundary. Together with extensions and other outbuildings, it can't cover more than half the land around the house. Using it as your own workshop is fine; running a business from it, with customers or staff visiting, may need permission. Listed homes, conservation areas and National Parks have tighter rules, and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own. If in doubt, ask your council.
Not normally. In England and Wales a detached garden building with under 15m² of floor area and nowhere to sleep doesn't need building regulations approval. All three sizes on this page are well under that. Any electrical work does still have to meet the regulations.
Our buildings come without wiring, sockets or lights. For power tools, speak to a registered electrician: power to a garden building is a new circuit, and it needs fitting and certifying properly. Tell them which machines you'll run so the circuit suits them.
The floor is 24mm nominal (18mm finished) pressure-treated boards, the same on the Standard and Heavy Duty specifications. We don't publish a floor-load rating. Build it on a solid, level base, keep heavy machines near the walls rather than in the middle of the floor, and stand them on a board to spread the load. If you're planning anything very heavy, check with us before you order.
The double doors hang on galvanised T hinges and close with a press lock and turn buttons. If you'll keep power tools or bikes in there, fit a good padlock and hasp of your own, and check your home insurance covers what's inside.
The double doors open to 42″ (1,067mm) wide. Measure the narrowest side of the bench, machine or bike against that. Inside, our Apex Sheds are 2,285mm high in the middle and 1,757mm at the sides; the Pent Shed is 1,887mm at the front and 1,757mm at the back.
