Shed Internal Heights by Size: Apex, Pent and Summer House
The real internal heights of every building we sell, by roof type and width: eaves and ridge for apex roofs, front and rear for pent roofs.

How tall is it inside?
Headroom decides whether you stoop or stand, whether a bike goes in upright and whether a desk or bench fits where you want it. Here are the real figures.
The short answer: on our pent roof buildings the inside is 1,887mm at the front and 1,757mm at the rear, whatever the size. On our apex buildings the sides (the eaves) are 1,757mm and the middle (the ridge) rises with the width, from 2,021mm on a 4ft-wide building to 2,285mm on an 8ft-wide one.
How to read the heights
Apex roofs slope down to both sides from a ridge along the middle. The eaves height is how tall the inside is at the side walls; the ridge height is the tallest point, down the centre. Because the roof pitch is the same, a wider apex building has a taller ridge, while the eaves stay the same.
Pent roofs slope one way, from a taller front (where the doors and windows are) to a lower rear. The heights are the same on every pent size, so a 4 × 4 and a 20 × 10 have the same headroom; the bigger building just gives you more floor.

Which roof gives more headroom?
In the middle, an apex: an 8ft-wide apex building is 2,285mm under the ridge, about 400mm taller than a pent at its front. At the walls, a pent's front is taller than an apex's sides (1,887mm against 1,757mm), and its rear is the same as the apex eaves.
So an apex suits anything you stand up in the middle of: a workshop, a gym, a potting bench with shelving above. A pent suits shelving and a bench along the tall front wall, and is lower overall, which helps if the building sits near a boundary. Our apex vs pent guide covers the other differences.
Check before you order
Measure the tallest things you'll keep or use inside: bikes stored upright, ladders, tall tools, gym kit, a person standing with arms raised. Compare them with the lower figure if they'll sit at a wall, and the higher figure if they'll sit in the middle. Remember the door opening limits what goes in, too; it's listed on each product page.
Height questions
Does a longer apex shed have a taller ridge?
No. The ridge height depends on the width only. An 8 × 6 and an 8 × 20 apex both have a 2,285mm ridge and 1,757mm eaves.
Does the Heavy Duty specification change the height?
No. Heavy Duty changes the walls to 22mm loglap instead of 16mm shiplap; the floor and frame are the same, and so are the heights.
